Welcome to The Hiking Coach — I’m Laurie, and this site is here to help everyday people and passionate hikers build the strength, confidence, and fitness to thrive in the
mountains.

I’ve been hiking since I was a child and strength training for almost two decades. Career highlights include setting the unsupported Wainwrights record (2021), becoming the first person to climb every English mountain in a single winter (2021-22) and becoming the fastest person to climb every English mountain (2023).

I’ve always felt strength training and hiking benefited each other and still can’t believe how little information there is about this in the ether. But that’s all about to change.

The Hiking Coach is here for beginners and improvers who want more than just scenic walks. Maybe you’re dreaming of bigger days on the hills, but feel
held back by fitness, injuries, or self-doubt. Maybe you’ve never trained properly for hiking and don’t know where to start.

I’m here to change that.

With a combination of scientific training methodology and years of experience in the mountains, I break down the training, mindset, and movement needed to become a stronger, more injury proof and capable hiker — no matter your starting point.
